Michael Miller has many thousands of hours of experience advocating for clients in complex multi-million dollar litigation against some of the largest insurance companies and corporations in the world. Some of these adversaries have included Kaiser Gypsum, Kelly-Moore, General Electric, John Crane, Georgia-Pacific, and the Lorillard Tobacco Company. Mr. Miller routinely takes up cases against these huge corporations and their team of defense lawyers.
His legal practice specializes in cases involving consumer safety law, toxic injury law, catastrophic injury, employment law, civil litigation, and wrongful death. In the year 2013, Mr. Miller was designated by his company to attend the prestigious ABA/TIPS/American Board of Trial Advocates National Trial Academy which is staged at the National Judicial College located in Reno, Nevada. Mr. Miller has also had the good fortune to work closely with one of the most accomplished California trial attorneys, Gil Purcell.
In 2014, Mr. Miller worked as part of a team on a case where a jury assessed a $70,861,113 verdict for a retired machinist mate and nuclear inspector. The jury decided that John Crane, Inc. was negligent, that its asbestos-containing products were defective in design, and that it failed to warn. The jury assessed $40 million in non-economic damages. The jury assessed $30 Million dollars in Loss of Consortium Damages and $861,113 in economic damages.
Mr. Miller has successfully represented thousands of individuals throughout the state of California, including San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco Bay Area, San Jose, Sacramento and Riverside. In addition to California, Mr. Miller has handled cases in the states of Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Oklahoma, Florida and Hawaii. Mr. Miller’s aggressive representation style has resulted in the recovery of more than $75,000,000 for his clients.
In 2018, Mr. Miller was designated one of the ‘Top 40 Lawyers Under 40’ by the American Society of Legal Advocates. The society is a nationwide, invitation-only organization of currently practicing elite lawyers. He was also recognized as one of the Top Attorneys in Northern California in 2017 by San Francisco Magazine.
He has earned a Superb 10.0 from Avvo. He also earned Avvo’s Clients Choice Award in 2017. Mr. Miller went to law school at the California Western School of Law, graduating in 2009 with his J.D. He also earned an Area of Concentration Certificate in the field of Employment Law with honors. While he was a student in law school, he was always on the Dean’s List, and garnered awards for Academic Achievement in California Civil Procedure.
He also did volunteer work as a law clerk at the Fair Housing Council of San Diego, and this allowed him to earn the Wiley P. Manual Award for Pro Bono Legal Services. Mr. Miller has his practice in the state of California, the US District Court Northern District of California, and the US District Court Southern District of California. He is a member of the California Employment Lawyers Association, Primerus, the Marin County Bar Association, the Consumer Attorneys of California, and the San Diego County Bar Association.
In August 2017, Michael Miller was chosen to sit on the Trial Guides Digital Advisory Board, which is a prestigious group used by Trial Guides for input and guidance. Before attending law school, Mr. Miller went to the University of Illinois at Chicago, graduating with a BA in English literature in 2003, in addition to earning a minor in Philosophy. He was regularly on the Dean’s List, and was selected to have his biographical information published on the National Dean’s List. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and is a life-long fan of the Chicago Cubs. Outside the courtroom, Mr. Miller enjoys hiking with his dog, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family, all while appreciating the beautifully benign weather of San Diego.
